Kay and her husband Duane moved to the beautiful Ozarks and have made it their home since leaving Phoenix, Arizona in 1972. They opened their real estate office, Gerken & Associates in 1975, which remains a vibrant business in the community.
A busy mom with two rowdy boys, Kay enhanced her real estate knowledge and career over the years, by obtaining several real estate designations, including GRI (Graduate Realtor® Institute), CRB (Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager), LTG (Leadership Training Graduate), and PMN (Performance Management Network).
An active member in the Tri-Lakes Board of Realtors®, Kay served as Board President in 1991 and received the Realtor® of the Year Award in 1992. She was instrumental in forming the local Board Leadership Academy training members of the history and governance of the local organization. In 2017 she received the “Distinguished Service Award”, the only REALTOR® in the Tri-Lakes area to ever receive this recognition.
Kay served as the 2004 President of the Missouri Association of Realtors® (MAR). With over 24,000 members, MAR has an influential role with Missouri's legislators to protect private property rights. Under Kay’s leadership, MAR took a proactive commitment to create a business friendly environment in Missouri. MAR held its first Economic Development Summit in 2004 which hosted local and state government leaders, economic developers, Realtors®, and business people throughout Missouri. In 2008, she was also awarded Realtor® of the Year from the Missouri Association of Realtors®.
Besides her Realtor® involvement, Kay plays an active role in the Branson Tri-Lakes community. For three years, she served as Chairman of the Board for the College of the Ozarks Associates. She has served as an Ambassador for the Branson Chamber of Commerce, an active member of the Catholic Church and volunteers her time to the Taneyhills Community Library on Thursday afternoons.
Now that those two rowdy boys, Charlie and Jeff, have grown up and joined the firm as brokers, she and Duane are enjoying the fruits of their years of labor. They have taken up ballroom dancing and are traveling to places they always talked about seeing.
